Lamb of Slaughter Mock Trial

LMS students in Ms. DeMerritt, Ms. Guzman, and Ms. Baumgardner's ELAR classes experienced a mock trial after reading the classic short story Lamb to the Slaughter by Roald Dahl. This story has an irony that the detectives eat the evidence from the crime scene, which is the leg of lamb. The LMS students had the task of putting Mary Maloney on trial. There were Judges and court reporters for each class, as well as lawyers for both the prosecution and the defense. Witnesses were sworn in using a dictionary and they gave testimony. Exhibits were presented as evidence to prove points and objections were made. There were juries for each trial deciding the fate of Mrs. Maloney after deliberations and deep conversations. This mock trial just might be the first step into having LMS students pursue their law degree! Thank you, Ms. DeMerritt, Guzman, & Baumgardner, for making the learning stick! You're in the right place!
