Freak the Mighty

LMS 8th-grade students in Mrs. Lomeli-Guzman and Mrs. DeMerritt’s RLA Classes kicked off the week by discovering how friendships develop in the book Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick. Students are learning how two 12-year-old boys from totally different backgrounds can overcome obstacles to develop the most unlikely friendship. There is Max who is “Mighty” because of his size and Kevin who is the “Freak” because he is freakishly smart and small. LMS students have been captivated by the story and are anxious to see how it will end. To help give our students a visual of the difference between Maxwel and Kevin we reached out to LMS Principal Mr. Eugenis and Luke Delacerda to help us recreate the cover. Wow, we should all read this book, and today is a great day to start it since it's National Read A Book Day!
