Today was a big day for LMS 7th grader Sophia Koubek. Sophia entered the Keep Texas Beautiful Art Contest through the LMS ACE program under David Adkins. Sophia’s art depicts cowboy boots, a bull rider, the “Don’t Mess With Texas” message, & the recycle symbol. Sophia won the Texas-based contest, and now United Supermarkets joined with representatives from the Levelland Chamber of Commerce, the City of Levelland, & the Keep Levelland Beautiful committee to kick off a unique reusable bag initiative featuring her artwork! The bags & her artwork remind us to keep the city of Levelland beautiful through sustainable practices like using shopping bags. The bags will be available for purchase for $5 at our Levelland United Supermarket & will fund the project for next year. “We are so excited to start this reusable bag initiative with the Keep Levelland Beautiful committee and the Levelland Chamber of Commerce,” said Kris Phillips, store director for United Supermarkets. “We hope this is the start of a great program to help us all remember to keep our community beautiful and recognize some of the wonderful art our students create.” We appreciate the connection that LISD has with United & The Chamber. We thank them for supporting our students. Congratulations to Sophia! We hope you pursue your artwork as you continue to grow & learn! Run pick up your bag like these LISD supports did!
