GT started off with a bang a couple weeks ago...the classes were divided into teams, then teams selected an area of the United States. They had no clue why, but soon found out, they were about to begin to solve the planet’s biggest problem in 2020...ZOMBIES.
Each team is responsible for creating an emergency response plan as well as a provisional government for their assigned region. In addition, they will have to plan for allocation of natural resources, agricultural production, as well as potential trade with other regions.
There was a ton of thinking, and even hot tempers when the math calculations for populations began to challenge the teams.
Over the next two weeks we will continue our preliminary research and agricultural plans for our regions. Keep posted and watch out for Zombies!
Lots of engagement today, and great conversations about climate and geography.
Population calculations caused a few heated debates.
Welcome back to LMS GT for the 2017-18 school year. This year will be a little different as we welcome Miss Davis to our team. Some of you will have me, some of you will have her. Fear not, we will ALL be working on the same project and let me tell you, its “monstrous”!
Please make sure you are signed up for Remind101 messages for GT Students. I had to clear out last year’s class, so there is a good chance you and your parents are no longer getting messages. Use the following link to stay in touch.
Just a few reminders, you will need your GT notebooks and a USB flash drive just like in the past. In addition, please know that your attendance on Wahoo Wednesday is critical. Our fall project is a team effort and will require full participation from everyone.
No Zombies allowed!
I’m a little behind posting these, but I wanted to share some pictures of our GT field trip from last month. The students have been working on inquiry circles on the topic of Ancient Civilizations for the last couple months. The primary theme of these civilizations is culture. The International Cultural Center at Texas Tech is a fantastic resource to examine aspects of culture throughout history and various locations.
The students examined the culture of China in current time, as well as characteristics from ancient times. They learned to write Chinese calligraphy characters, identified their Chinese zodiac signs as well as looking at day to day life in modern China.
